Virginia Burned Records Counties Database : This database contains a growing collection of local court records, principally copies of deeds and probate records. These records were generally used as exhibits in a court case. The significance of these items is that the recorded original record is generally from a locality other than that in which the case occurred. Additionally, the original is usually from a locality for which there has been a substantial records loss. In most cases, the copy may be the only extant copy of the document. Dunmore's War (1774) Collection : Payrolls and muster rolls from Dunmore's War which was fought on the Virginia frontier in 1774. The military certificates are available on microfilm. Alphabetical Rent Roll of Virginia 1704/05 Virginia Quit Rent Rolls, 1704 This is a complete abstract of rolls listing the 5,527 land owners who paid quit rents to the Crown in Virginia in 1704. S. Bassett French Biographical Sketches collection. Between 1890 and 1897 and in preparation for an intended biographical dictionary of prominent Virginians of the XIX century, Mr. French compiled biographical information on almost 9,000 men. This collection consists of those handwritten notes. Virginia Revolutionary War Rejected Claims : An index to the documents used to verify dates and length of service of officers, soldiers, and sailors in a Virginia or Continental unit during the Revolutionary War. Individuals whose claims for bounty land were rejected did not have enough accumulated service to qualify for either an initial or an additional bounty land award. Document images are available online. Revolutionary War Bounty Warrants Database at the Library of Virginia. A fully-searchable index to the documents used to verify dates and length of service of officers, soldiers, and sailors in a Virginia or Continental unit during the Revolutionary War. Accumulated service was used to determine the amount of bounty land awarded to each individual. Document images are available online. Virginia Herald 1787-1876 Name-Event Index Revolutionary War Public Service Claims : Index to documents relating to claims for compensation made by Virginia citizens for materials, supplies, and services provided to the Virginia militia or Continental Army during the Revolutionary War. These documents, consisting of certificates, court booklets and lists, and commissioner's books, are available on microfilm. Militia Officers in Virginia, June 1699 The Library of Virginia Coat of Arms Index collection : This finding aid indexes 32 published sources containing information and illustrations pertaining to family coats of arms. Culpeper County, Virginia Classes : In 1780-1781, the Legislature passed "An act for recruiting this state's quota of troops to serve in the Continental Army." The act further called for the county militia to be divided into equal units, or classes, and one man to be chosen by lot to serve 'during the war, or for the term of three years'. If the quota was not thus recruited, one man was to be drafted from each class. Culpeper County was responsible for furnishing 106 men. This collection lists all the men in each class and the individual drafted from each. In some cases a trade or physical description of the draftee is given.
